The BEV CARDO venture was born out of my love of home decorating and creating beautiful spaces. Four years ago I had completed the building and decorating of our new home, and with no other projects in sight, I began to get that creative itch.

The Doodle Shop* was empty.  Hmmm... I waited for my daughter, Kristin, to come home for winter break. Then sitting at the kitchen table one day, I ran the idea by her, “how would you like to team up with me?”  That’s when the fun began as we started planning a new space to create. It would be a boutique-style store featuring home furnishings and more!  Scribbling ideas on a pad, we began filling the space with our imaginings, envisioning color, just the right music, artwork, beach-style furnishings, and perfect little gifts you just have to take home!  With an empty two floors and 7 rooms to fill, we could accommodate the endless possibilities, as we combined our separate tastes and talents.

In July of 2007, our first season began with a book signing with author, Suzanne Brown.  By the time we closed in September, we realized that the store was more than a place to shop.  Kristin and I proved to be a winning team - we had created a place that was colorful, fun and had an energy which kept drawing people back.

Greeting you at the door of BEV CARDO, is Norma Jeanne, our vintage Pucci mannequin. Named for my mother because of her red hair, slightly turned-up nose, sophistication and fashion sense, she has become an icon for the store, along with her dog, “Handsome.”  Check out her personal blog!  She advises and dishes, and tells about her choice favorites in the store.

Each summer we make changes in the store’s look and merchandise, so be sure to drop in to see what’s new this year.  We will continue to offer clever and fun gift ideas, great cocktail dresses for summer parties, and the latest in home furnishings.  If you haven’t yet been in to see us, please do!  (Map us!)

*The Doodle Shop was a family-owned store, open in the 80’s & 90’s, selling dolls, gifts, and trinkets. It was especially popular among the Quogue kids for its penny candy!
